"A bill introduced Monday, proposing to strip endangered species protections from Mexican gray wolves would mean “unrecoverable losses” for the Southwestern wolves, wildlife advocates said.

Arizona Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar’s bill, “Enhancing Safety for Animals Act,” would remove the wolf from the federal list of endangered species and end U.S. population restoration efforts in Mexico. Gosar’s office issued a news release saying “significant attacks by wolves on cattle, elk, moose, and sheep have occurred and have negatively impacted hunters and ranchers throughout Arizona.”

So basically, hunters who think ecosystems must revolve around them and ranchers are whining about wolves to the right person, who then introduces a bill that, let's face it, will be signed into law, removing protection from an animal with less than 300 individuals in the USA. In a region where the state game agencies have done everything in their power to hamper wolf recovery and due to this, this subspecies will never be allowed to fully recover in the US.

Sound about right?

This is all really unfortunate. From the lack of staff in national parks resulting in an increase in bear poaching to the northern Rocky Mountain states declaring war on wolves to this, it seems like large carnivore conservation in the US has failed.
