Proposed Zoo/Aquarium Trips For 2010

Well aside from my Monthly visits to Toronto, I would like to visit some smaller zoos in Ontario that some may consider "road side" however the ones I am choosing have fairly good reputations.

I would like to see:
- African Lion Safari (again last time I went it was raining)
- Bowmanville Zoo (They seem to have a change in management and a nice addition of animals from when I went 3 years ago)
- Oshawa Zoo
- Niagara Aviary
- Niagara Butterfly Conservatory

If I am lucky down South to: Detroit, Buffalo, or Bronx. (Those depend on work, finances, etc.)

I'm hoping to go to Healesville for the ARAZPA conference in March and would love to see Melbourne while I'm there. A few other places may be added--just have to see what my schedule will allow!

I'm also planning a getaway to Phoenix AZ, but that has to be during cooler weather, like Palm Desert, as well. And with my Niece playing as a starting guard for the WNBA Minnesota Timberwolves, my wife and I figure it's high time we visited Minnesota for one of her home games. Minnesota Zoo is high on my list of things to do while there. We may possibly take in games to see her in Sacramento, Phoenix and Seattle, as well as when she visits here in LA at the Staples Center. More possible zoo visiting opportunities. But her schedule makes all visits out-of-town to see her tentative.

And where are you out there sports fans? I stated that my niece plays for the WNBA Minnesota "Timberwolves" which is the men's NBA team there. Which would make her an even more incredible women's basketball player than she already is. She plays for the WNBA Minnesota Lynx, the women's professional basketball team there. I just had to make that correction to what is an obviously blaring mistake.

But some would say, "we're use to your mistakes by now blackduiker and just looked the other way this time."

2010 Zoo trip

I grew up in Kansas City and the KC Zoo is nothing compared to Omaha's Zoo. If your already in KC it's worth the the 3-4 hour trip to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. The aquarium that you can walk though is incredible. I go to Omaha every year just to spend time in the aquarium. Plus they have the world's largest nocturnal exhibit, world's largest indoor rain-forest, and the desert dome (world's largest glazed geodesic dome) that contains the world's largest indoor desert.
In addition to my normal trip to the Omaha zoo this year, I will also go to the Dallas Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo. I might go to the Houston zoo if I have the time.

@chrisnnebraska: I totally agree with your thoughts on Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, as I visited that collection in the summer of 2008. It is the 3rd best zoo I've ever seen, with only San Diego and Bronx better in my opinion.

Hmm, nothing solid sofar but at least on the planning;
- Walsrode
- Avifauna

I'm also pretty sure i'll make it to AquaZoo and Wissel a couple of times this year. For the rest i have some loose plans for
- Dresden Zoo
- Jaderpark
- Nordhorn
- Rheine
- Krefeld
- Safaripark Beekse Bergen
- Hamburg
- NOP Oerle

For the rest, i'll see where my summer holiday takes me... If it's not going to be Africa or China this year then i might take a tent and see if i can reach Beauval and Doué...

It is fun imagining where you might end up though :)

Well this year i'l be doing the useual numerous visits to The Cotswold wildlife park, the first of which is on the 17th (day before i am 17!)

Marwell will probably be visited at some point and.............

In the summer i probably won't go to many zoos, mainly becuase i am off to Ecuador, with 3 days on the Galapagos islands! I can't wait!!!

Ohh, so lucky its my dream to go there! One day I will go. I am going to Egypt in March!

Nice!

I'l take as many photos as possible when i'm out there.

That reminds me that I've still got a bunch to upload onto here. Anyway, have a great time whatever islands you're visiting and be sure to post your photos in the gallery.

If you're going snorkelling/diving, you should see just as much. ;) I saw a dugong, albeit it's back and tail on the surface, but I would've snorkeled near to it if it hadn't been for another on a different boat scaring it off. But we saw some amazing coral life. :)

Another fine establishment I really enjoy is Wings of Paradise :) I went there today, it's one of my favorites.

With some luck, this could be a good year for my zoo visits. I've just booked Amsterdam for next weekend with friends - between a couple of late nights I'll visit Artis.
If I can get the flights right, I hope to get a chance to visit either Zurich or Frankfurt zoo on the way to Egypt in June, before continuing to visit a couple of Egyptian zoos.
I'll continue my regular visits to London Zoo, but I'm also desperate to go on my first ever visits to Chester, Edinburgh and the Aspinall parks by the end of 2010 - RSCC, Howletts and Port Lympne looking the most likely to occur soon. Perhaps a summer road trip is necessary but we'll see how things go.

To add to my initial posts, I should be adding the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium to my list for 2010. Probably around early December. My wife plans to do the Honolulu Marathon again. Her first time was in 2002, our first trip to Hawaii and the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium. I'll definitely post as many photos to the gallery from both, but that's a good many months from now and the plans are still tentative. In the mean time, I did recently complete the trip to the Living Desert in Palm Desert, California. The photos have been posted already. Next up, probably Santa Barbara Zoo.

Now that 2010's gone, I was wondering how everyone did with their proposed visits. I read my post and laughed at how different it was to reality:

I did actually get to Artis, and also went on a trip to South America, where I visited several other zoos. Unfortunately, after breaking my leg in Bolivia, there was no chance of visiting zoos in Egypt, nor Frankfurt/Zurich on the way. My road trip didn't happen either as I spent the rest of the summer on crutches, but I still got a couple of London and Whipsnade visits in. I also visited a zoo in Gran Canaria while we were there a few weeks ago.
Even though 2010 turned out very different to my plans, it was still not a bad year for my zoos.

What's in store for 2011? I'm not even going to guess this time ;)

How did everyone else do with their proposed/predicted trips?
