What zoos and wildlife parks are currently closed or being effected by tropical cyclone Alfred? I'm not totally familiar with the area, but i think the following parks would be in the zone - Australia Zoo, Maleny Bird gardens (socials said they were closed in preparations for the storm) Wildlife HQ, David Fleay Wildlife park, Ipswich Nature Centre, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Currumbim Wildlife Sanctuary, Darling Downs Zoo (are they inland enough to escape the worst?) Dream world. Have i missed anyone?
I trust everyone stays safe, but could we use this thread to discuss any news or reports of damage to the zoos as a result of the cyclone?

The worst of the cyclone is set to hit inland tommorrow morning, so I think we can expect to see most of those facilities (especially around Brisbane/Gold Coast) get hit by the storm.

Darling Downs are far enough inland where theoretically they shouldn't get the worst, but will still get the storm (or what's left of it). It will reach there early Sunday morning.

Australia Zoo seems to be the park that may be hit the worst looking at the trajectory of the cyclone.

Fingers crossed all facilities have prepared and all staff and animals stay safe.

Australia Zoo’s response:

Anticipating the arrival of Cyclone Alfred, the Sunshine Coast hinterland attraction advised “as Cyclone Alfred approaches, Australia Zoo is actively liaising with the local authorities and taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our animals, staff and visitors, which is our top priority.

Our dedicated team has implemented all precautionary measures to ensure the wellbeing of our animals, who will safely be tucked into their homes should the cyclone impact us significantly.

The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital continues to operate 24 hours a day, and will be prepared to treat native wildlife impacted by the cyclone in the coming days. Severe weather events can destroy wildlife habitats, forcing animals to seek shelter elsewhere and leave them vulnerable to injury. By driving carefully and reporting injured animals to local rescue units, we can help protect them during this time.”

The Darling Downs Zoo closed early today and will remain closed over the weekend, From social media.

Stay bunkered down and safe everyone in Queensland who's living in or is visiting in the predicted cyclone alfred contact areas.

Same with all the animals, for those in zoos and wildlife parks have no doubt their keepers have done everything they can to secure them as much as they can be. Hope no wild animals are lost to the cyclone either.

Update on Australia Zoo:

Zoo closed March 8 and March 9:

From Terri Irwin:

For the next couple of days, Australia Zoo will be closed while we wait for cyclone Alfred to pass through. When our skies are blue again, we’ll be ready to welcome you back.

Our animals are safe, and there are a few of us sheltering here with them to make sure they stay snug and comfy.

A special thank you to our doctors and nurses caring for wildlife that need help at our Hospital. Open around the clock since 2004, our Wildlife Hospital treats animals in need until they can be released back to the wild. Stay safe everyone. We’ll take care of the critters!
