Trip on October 18th!
- Polar Bears, Caracal, arctic wolf elk were very active
- First time in my life I have heard an elk call!
- America's Pavilion old owl exhibit being up for something, and the reptile exhibit which name I can't remember
- Dart Frog exhibit set up as well as waxy monkey tree frogs
- Kuda sea horses set up in Australasia in place of pot belly's
- Baby swamp wallaby is doing good
- Something happening in Eurasia possibly plan being laid out?
- Cave in on the arctic fox den for the kids
- Arctic fox exhibit comming along hope they will be out there soon!

Thanks for that update! I saw the baby Swamp Wallaby last time I was at the zoo. He is a real cutie!

Very curious as to what is up with Eurasia . . .

Cool, I was there as well that day. For some reason there was a huge amount of people with large camera's there that day, seemed kind of weird.

Did you get to see the muddy polar bear? One of them decided to dig himself a bit of a hole and roll around in it. He was barely white at all when he finished.

Yes there was a lot of people their with large cameras. I did see the polar bear rolling around in the mud.

Good update, glad to hear everythign is doing well

Just a question, are the two bachelor elk still in the former musk-oxen habitat?

Yes I think so, there were only two their when I was in the Domain. That was the reason they were calling as it is rutting season.

ahh, ok

Maybe they were calling to the elk in the bison/elk mixed exhibit?

He was in the Swamp Wallaby exhibit and looks like one. Maybe it is a younger one they braught in?

Which of the exhibits is the swamp wallaby exhibit? Is it the one that has an indoor and outdoor area in the Australia Pavilion?

Yes the swamp wallaby exhibit is indoors and a small outdoor area as well.

Thats cool, when I was there all three of them were outside running around and he looked younger to me as well, so it seems like something must have been changed up.

A quick unrelated question, I saw the baby Przewalski horse when I was there as well and I was wondering if anyone knew how old he was currently?

The asian wild horse colt was born in late August to dam "Alicia" and sire "Phoenix"

Just a question, is there any specific reason that Taschi and Kitana (the other adult females) haven't had a foal yet?

Will have to check on new wallaby arrivals - I know we had a Bennett's born, but hadn't heard of a new swamp wallaby.

Re: P horses, it is likely to do with age - none of our females were bred until they were over 12 years old. There are lots of problems in the population with nulliparous females (those which haven't given birth) not being able to become pregnant at older ages. It is actual quite a marvel that three of them have had offspring! (And it's not for lack of trying!)

Ahh ok, that would probably explain it

I wonder if once some of these foals move out (Solstice, Nikolai, Ghengis and Napolean), could we maybe end up recieving some new, younger female p. horses?

Zoogoer I don't think there is anything being done on bringing in more genetics into our herd. Not postivie but I don't think so haven't seen or heard anything.

Thank you Quartz, Im just hoping we don't have another situation where all the older females pass away and were left with the sire of everyone and these foals

In all honesty, I'm surprised Solstice and Nikolai haven't left yet to avoid another hiatus (Ghengis and Napolean might still be a bit to young to depart yet)
