Queens Zoo Queens Zoo News

I visited the zoo a few days ago and have a few little things to report.
1. The swans are now in the alligator exhibit, no signs for either alligator or swans.
2. The old sandhill crane exhibit net to the alligators has been taken down. A sandhill crane still lives in the aviary.
3. The bad eagles where in a fenced off enclosure behind their exhibit. Still visible through that wire fence, but not in their usual space.
4. There are new English and Spanish information signs at most of the exhibits. The lynx exhiibt also has a sign telling people to stay back so the cats don't get COVID.
5. Everything in the extinct species graveyard is totally gone. It's just a dirt path now winding to the great horned owl exhibit. I know the gravestone shad been gone for a while, but not sure how long the psace has been so empty.
6. There is a small fenced-in area inside the aviary next to the righthand path you take to the bridge. Anyone know what if anything lives there? There is no sign.
7. Are there still roadrunner in with the thick-billed parrots? It was a tad on the cool side so maybe it was inside, but I don't recall a sign being there.

I believe the alligators are just off exhibit until spring. The bald eagles were in the small fenced in area on my last two visits (one visit was last month and another was in September). In September I also saw the roadrunner, but I don’t know if it is still there.

It was announced on August 30 that Andean bears Nuna and Pacha (1.1.0) have moved on from the zoo to new facilities to participate in the SSP. No zoos were mentioned by name. This makes mother Nicole and father Bouba empty-nesters, with their future breeding plans unknown at this time. Happy trails, cubs!

Pacha is in Cleveland. We did not get Nuna, so where she went is unknown

Last year, the zoo began installing new educational signage at each exhibit, with facts in both English and Spanish, and a unique art style. Personally, I adore these and find the art very inviting for guests to look at. Here’s the new pudu and coyote signage from my visit last week. IMG_3239.jpegIMG_3240.jpeg

I saw a friend on social media post pictures of her trip to Queens Zoo in the past day and it seems the Andean bears are back on exhibit and Nicole had three cubs at the end of last year! The cubs are on exhibit with their mother. I am unsure if they are only out on certain days or times.
