The zoo has updated its website and from it it appears as though they've added Argentine Lake Duck to their collection.

This comes from city funding to bring a major exhibit to the zoo/aquarium.
So the NY Aquarium gets a major shark exhibit (opening 2016)
Central Park got the new snow leopard area
Prospect Park Zoo was supposed to get Amur Leopards
and Queens Zoo was supposed to get jaguars.
I am not sure if the Bronx Zoo was getting anything out of this funding.

However; with the recession and Hurricane Sandy I am not sure if the jaguar and Amur Leopard areas are still on.

However; on my last visit to Queens last fall they had 4 common rheas in a holding yard behind the elk. They were not "on display", but you could see them in the distance. Maybe a Pampas exhibit for Queens in the future?

well what about that safari?

and as for the pamas that would be interesting. they could incorporate their llamas into it. but since the pampas are from south america maybe the jaguars will come eventually? I don't know
 
I don't know why this hasn't been advertised yet, but the zoo has 3 burrowing owls in the thick billed parrot exhibit. I went to camp at the zoo this summer and I got to see them. (On a side note, I saw one of the owls running and they look really funny when they do it, like they were rejected extras from "Mamma Mia!")
 
I forgot to post as well that they were in the Thick Billed Parrot aviary with the parrots. They even had burrows throughout. I only saw two right next to the glass. Unfortunately the roadrunner is no longer labeled for that enclosure. I am not sure if they are gone entirely from the collection.
 
I'm very surprised that nobody's talked about this, but the zoo got a new young female Andean bear (I think from Washington D.C.). She arrived in August 2015 and was put on exhibit in November 2015. Fingers crossed for cubs from her and Bouba!

What? How long does it take for Andean bears to mature? If she left in August she only would've been 9 months old.

Edit: Wait no wrong set of cubs.
