Chester Zoo Questions and comments about Chester Zoo

Perhaps the cheetah felt a little worried or threatened if the woman tried to get a bit too close. I doubt they would ever attack maliciously.

I still find it difficult to believe...

I've always thought of Cheetahs as timid, nervous creatures- at least where it comes to humans- more like temperament of the smaller cat species. If this was a 'tame'cheetah as appears to be the case, I'd have thought it wouldn't have objected however close she was, I've seen photos of people fondling tame cheetahs like domestic dogs. Still, they ARE wild animals.

Speaking to one of the presenters today,

The cheetah's are apparently coming from an Arab state but are def not asiatic, they will be a east african sub species

thank goodness for that i can put the salt and pepper back in the cupboard.

I visited today, so some observations...
- Lots of work being carried out all over the zoo.
- Work being done to the old Orang island for the return of Sibu (Chester's old Bornean male). It looked like the moat was being made deeper...
- Phillipine Croc exhibit work coming along nicely. Some areas of tropical realm are therefore fenced off.
- The bridge looks to be about 2/3rds completed.
- Cheetah exhibit has been completely dug-up now.
- Two of the ratsnakes in Realm of the Red Ape were mating early in the day.
- No sign of the current Bornean Orangs
- Only one hornbill on show in the elephant house
- The baby giraffe 'Margaret' looks healthy and was attracting a huge crowd. The first time that i've seen people queuing outside the giraffe house! Could possibly become the new Tejas... ;)

Are they making the pool deeper for the crocs from what you saw and any sign of underwater viewing for them,as this had been rumoured.

The pool did look deeper than the original one, but I could only view it properly from the second floor. It looked as if the construction crew were smoothing out the pool so I guess that they did make it deeper...

I'm not sure about the underwater viewing as the original wall looked to still be in place.

OK, PM me and we could discuss it...

I should be there for most of the day (I'm going to see Margaret first, as I've heard the Queues can be pretty big!)

Do you fancy meeting up and having a zoobeat awayday????????
