Hi Everyone I Was On The Website And I Was Wondering I Few Things.

Are The Zoo Planning To Breed These Species:
Sun Bear's
Amur Leopard's
Red Panda's
Patagonian Sea Lion's
Cheetah's
Southern Tamandua's
Amur Tiger's
African Lion's
White Tiger's.

Also Are The Zoo Planning To Bring In:
A Male Patagonian Sea Lion
A Male Cheetah
A Pure Female Amur(Siberian)Tiger
A Unrelated Female Lion(S)
A Female White Tiger

Finally:
Are The Zoo Planning To Bring In:
After Certain Species Die/Move;
Orangutan Forest
White Tiger Valley

I know that Anoushka the tiger will be leaving at some point and a pure Amur female brought in for Igor. A suitable home is still being located for Nush
Rajang will hopefully live for at least another 8 years :) After that a female will be brought in for Tiga and a breeding group established.
The female cheetah (Uria) has a male companion, or did, but they didn't get on so either...a) he is moving on and a new one being brought in or, b) Uria is being swapped with a female from another collection (and the male staying) until they are both pregnant, then they will be swapped back again.

They're keeping Sasha to live out his years by himself and then using his enclosure for something else but I don't know what.

the new sun bear enclosure will be going where the spider monkeys are (the ones by the leopard enclosure) and the spider monkeys will be moving to another collection

As well as the ones opposite hornbill hill I'm sure.

I'd doubt they would bring in another white tiger as the whole white tiger valley has signs and information on how white tigers are inbred.

They're not going to bring in any more white tigers once Sasha is no longer there. The enclosure will be redeveloped for another species

I look forward to that in due course. That enclosure has some potential given it's large size and mature foliage (let's hope they go easy on the fake rocks:D).

The fake rock makers of Colchester are shaking their collective fists at you Shorts!! ;)

As I go every week I tend not to notice the fake rock any more although it's funny when I take friends round, it's always one of the first things they comment on (that and the magnificance of Rajang...)

The zoo did bring in a female white tiger in the late 90's but unfortunetly Sasha killed her. Theres a plaque on the enclosure in her memory.

What about the ones near the penguins (where the seating for the sealion show used to be).

the 2 really old spider monkeys are staying as far as I am aware but the group of spider monkeys (opposite the tortoises) are moving

Are the komodo dragons going to get an outdoor area mentioned in the original plans, or will it be left for the hunting dogs?

I doubt they will as the roof on the enclosure is retractable so can be like an outdoor enclosure on warmer days, I think that an outdoor area would be a waste if it could only be used for a few months a year.

Colchester has a track record for announcing plans and then disappoint (ORANGUTAN FOREST!!!! So many plans for different species, but what did they deliver turtles, fish and insects :mad::mad:)

I know what you mean. I posted the following a couple of weeks ago in another Colchester Zoo post.

"I was just looking at some old Colchester zoo maps from the late 90's and saw that the zoo were planning to have African hunting dogs where the black and white colobus monkeys are now.

It got me thinking of other things i remember Colchester Zoo were planning in the past but never happened and thought of two things.

1. When the zoo annouced the new orangutan enclosure they said the area would include a walkthrough butterfly exhibit.

2. Komodo dragons were annouced in the late 90's and were going to be housed even in or near the Spirit of Africa building.

Can anyone confirm these or remember any other plans/rumours that never happened?"

I also have a feeling that a lot of what the zoo wants for the new tropical house will never happen, especially now the sun bear enclosure will have to be built before the old orangutan enclosure can be demolished.

To be fair, this type of thing (announcing, then amending or cancelling plans) is not unique to Colchester -most zoos do it, to some extent. Realistically running a zoo in a fluid environment (changing financial situations, animals dying/becoming available, etc) will always lead to such situations.
