R LAZY J Wildlife Ranch R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch

Starting this weekend (April 24-26, 2020), the park will reopen as a drive-thru park only, every Friday, Saturday, Sunday for as long as the Covid-19 restrictions are in place.

...They definitely have 2 clouded leopards that are 2-3 years old, as well as some fishing cats...
I received a reply on Facebook Messenger stating "we no longer have fishing cats." It looks like the two clouded leopards are the only cats currently at the park.

R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch is the newest zoological park in the state of Arizona. I believe it opened some time in 2018? It is located in Eager, a rural community on the eastern edge of the state near the New Mexico border (halfway between the state's northern and southern borders). Visitors go on a guided tour which is conducted every two hours (reservations recommended but not required if space is still available). It is run by a married couple; according to the website the husband has worked in ranching his entire life and the wife has worked in "the zoo industry" most of her adult life (which zoos it does not say).

Details are sketchy and a complete species list is unavailable, but it appears to consist of large hoofstock fields and a small walk-thru area. The former houses domestic water buffalo, domestic watusi cattle, addax, scimitar horned oryx, and perhaps other antelope. The walk-thru contains a budgie feeding aviary, ring-tailed lemur, sloth (presumably two toed), wallaby, perhaps a few other small mammals, and (the one that caught my eye) clouded leopards.

Hi guys! I actually work at R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch. To answer a bunch of questions I have seen in this thread. We just got a cheetah about 3 weeks ago. We do have a ground cuscus, that isn't in the public eye yet. We do not have wallaby, we have red kangaroos. The reason why we don't have a full list of animals on the website is because we don't like to give away what kind animals there is before guests come. To tell you a short list because we have over 20 species of animals. We have dromedary camels, lowland anoa, river water Buffalo, black buck, clouded leopards (bam bam & pebbles), a cheetah (lona), ring tail lemurs, linnaues two toed sloth (moneypenny), goats, red River hogs, warthogs, scimitar horned oryx, addaxs, ankole watusi cattle, grant zebras, sulcata tortoises, American alligators, blue and gold macaws, tyras, African civets, etc. I'm not really sure what you guys mean by fishings cats?
Vanessa, the wife owner, actually help start bearizona. When she wasn't needed there she was bought out. Her and Jacob roer went and bought the zoo in Virginia called Roers Zoofari. They wanted to get a place closer towards home so they found a beautiful land in eagar, az. They built a wildlife ranch. That opened up on September 1st, 2018. We dont identify as a zoo. Our tours go through two pastures at the moment, the first pasture you get to pet anything that comes up and if purchase the feed you get to feed them. In the second pasture its more of looking than touching because the addaxs have had babies that they don't like people to touch. Then you go through a walk through with a tour guide where you will see a bunch of other species and be able to pet most of them. There is a bird aviary that guests do get to feed parakeets for free. If you can not get a response from info@rlazyj, please email me at guestservices@rlazyjranch.com. Vanessa and jacob are very busy owners having 3 businesses to manage.

Is that Roer as in Bernard Roer, used to breed Cracids.
A Fishing Cat is a Fishing Cat, once known as a Viverrine Cat

We do have one if you count an African civet as one. I am still reading up on them so I dont know much about them yet. They are omnivores and such... No, not that Roer. Their names are jacob and vanessa roer. I have linked the website to the roers zoofari in virginia Roer's Zoofari | Vienna, Virginia

New Guinea ground cuscus?

@Lydia I am so glad you found us because it will be very nice to have someone from the ranch answering our questions. I hope you will use this thread to post news items. Fishing cat is the actual name of a small cat from Southeast Asia (and yes they do fish). There are perhaps twenty or so zoos across the country with them, but none in Arizona. Also, don't take this the wrong way, but I find it a bit odd they would not want guests to know what kind of animals are there before they come. There are a number of people like myself who only go to a zoological park to see certain animals and not knowing ahead of time would be a reason for me NOT to go.

Its also the site we use, we always have a hasel of a time getting them to change stuff. Thats why the animals aren't on there, I personally wish it was. If you do call the ranch we are more than happy to share a lot of the animals we have. We also need to get better on posting when we have new animals and babies. I am not in charge of that unfortunately. It is baby season there and we have a bunch of babies.

This is understandable and thanks for explanation. I recently changed my own photography website to a different provider/format because I had a hard time figuring out how to make changes on my old one.

Welcome, Lydia! I'm going to send you an e-mail in a minute, if you don't mind. Regarding fishing cat, Zoofari used to have them as recently as last summer, I believe, but I was told by staff there that the cat went to the AZ location, along with the cloudeds. The scientific name for the species is Prionailurus viverrinus.

I'm with Arizona Docent on telling people what species you have. I will drive hours to see a species I haven't seen before, but I can't do that if I don't know a place has something. As an example, a few of us had reached out multiple times to find out if Virginia Safari Park had received LEO's king cheetah when that facility closed a few years ago. None of us ever got a reply from them. When they finally announced they had her in June, along with 2 grandkids, I drove the 5 hours to visit them just a few days later. I would have gotten there eventually, but at 5 hours, it wasn't near the top of my list of places to go. I'll be visiting again next month.

I was thinking maybe descended from Bernard Roer, he died in 1999

Welcome Lydia! I don't want to overload you with questions, but do you know anything about the clouded leopards? Like from what zoo they came, or their age, birthdate or parents? Sorry, if I am asking too much.

They came from their VA location, Roer's Zoofari. I believe they originated at Tanganyika. They were born mid-2017, and went to Roer's late November of that year. Pebbles and Bam Bam.

So I was informed that Jacob is the great nephew of Bernard Roer! I wasnt sure if he was or wasn't. Vanessa and Jacob actually wasn't bought out of bearizona (because they were never owners of bearizona) but decided to go open up the zoo in Virginia. I apologize for the wrong choice of words. I have done some research on the African civets and unfortunately are not fishing cats.

How are the cheetah boys doing out in Arizona?
