Mandai Wildlife Reserve Rainforest Wild news 2025

Talk about perhaps the fastest birth so far, I wasn't expecting it to be so quick
Yeah, they must have breed roughly within a month of arriving in Singapore. Zooish reported on 3rd March that they recently welcomed a fawn. Their gestation period is roughly 240 days, which was 6 July 2024, less than a month after Zooish reported their arrival on 18 June 2025.

Hopefully this same breeding success applies to the Okapis too. Their gestation is 440 day (around 14½ months), putting the earliest possible date at late this year. Crossing my fingers for a baby okapi by the time RFW AFRICA opens.

Not news, but this was the most recent thread on Rainforest wild.

Really weird zoo, I barely saw any animals but the infrastructure and design was crazy good.

It made me feel like I was visiting a zoo from the future, where most zoos we go to today are called unethical and unatural.

I recommend it to Zoochat people, but I think normal zoo-goers will find it odd.

RW no longer keeps saltwater crocodiles and the enclosure currently stands empty. In the near future, it will house a different species, Siamese crocodile.

1 of the 3 rotational habitats is also under maintainance. The bearded pigs were off display today.

Correct on that first statement. Panjang the saltwater croc will be moved to be housed at Rainforest Wild Africa to my understanding.

I have a theory, but don't quote me on this. There seems to be some pressure from higher ups to open Rainforest Wild Africa quickly. The remaining construction work is being rushed. No new African crocodile species have arrived and they can't keep a major habitat (2 large enclosures are dedicated to crocs, and the campsite is named after crocs) empty, so Panjang has to stand in for the time being. Like i said, this is purely me theory.

This is really weird as Panjang was heavily featured in their social media campaign. Are they going to make another video of moving him to RW Africa? :D

i’m very worried about this expedited process, hopefully it doesn't result in a drop of quality. :(

It's likely Panjang will be a temporary stand in for another species, I have a feeling he will move back to RFWAs at some point again should we actually get an African species (but again, things do change so we never know)

I wouldn't be surprised if any of Mandai's Monthly videos that discuss it in the future would have something along the lines of "Panjang was used as a temporary placeholder to test if our current enclosures would be well suited for our new crocodilians" or perhaps he'd be brushed over quickly, similarly to the Secretary Bird

What other species of crocodilians were planned, Nile or slender-snouted crocodiles? Stitch the dwarf crocodile is probably too small for how large those enclosures may be

A younger male saltwater croc has supposedly arrived as well, with both crocs moving to Rainforest Wild Africa when the time comes.

Case in point, a Singapore government minister in charge of tourism recently made a public speech saying Rainforest Wild Africa will open "later this year". I suppose he misspoke as such speeches are usually carefully checked. Or he could have meant 'financial year', which in Singapore is from April to March the following year. It looks highly unlikely Rainforest Wild Africa can open in December.
