This seems as good a place as any to ask a question to all those bird experts. Is it normal for blackbirds to feed on fungi - I certainly cannot find any reference to them doing so at all. Asking because on going out into my garden this morning, I found a female blackbird pecking at and swallowing pieces of small orange toadstools growing in the lawn. I've never seen such behaviour before.

An event one hopes is rare - this happened very close to where I live, luckily my Christmas Tree is a real one!

It surtainly isn't part of their normal diet but I've seen Blackbirds and other thrushes also eating fungi. Also seen it in Magpies and other crows.
