Rarely Talked about or seen Animals

Almost all rodents and lagomorphs.

Stink badgers and ferret badgers. Pretty much everything from madagascar that isn't a meur or fossa. A lot of the "lesser" deer and antelope species. Beaked dolphins/whales.

I would say that even fossas are not often talked about (outside of Madagascar that is) and they are apparently very hard to see in the wild.

I've never heard of a meur :p so I would have to agree with you that it must be a very rare and forgotten beast indeed ;) :p

Maybe it because I'm in their native range, but Shovelnose Sturgeon are fairly common in zoos in my area, though not quite as popular as Lake Sturgeon.

Oh really? I wasn't aware that they are kept. Makes sense though, considering they are native to your area.

Ah, the Meur. What a remarkable beast of Madagascar. :p

Smithsonian Zoo has a neat exhibit on knifefish :) They have elephant-nose knifefish, bluntnose knifefish, black ghost knifefish, and glass knifefish.

Here’s a thing. Hume’s Bar-tailed Pheasant is not uncommon in private collections (we bred nine this year), but no U.K. zoo exhibits this Near Threatened species
