Rarest animals seen in a zoo or aquarium

Florida panthers in Homosassa springs state park, Jacksonville zoo, lowry park zoo, white oak conservation center, and i think big cat rescue has 2. all of which are in FL.

Someone i belive mentioned FL manatees which are also at Lowry park zoo in tampa. they are west indian manatees but isis calls all the manatees in zoos Caribbean manatees and a fair number of zoos have them.

@ ungulate nerd - impressive list, but I would say there is about a zero percent chance you saw an asian cheetah at Wild About Cats. For the last several decades there has never been an asian cheetah outside of Iran.
 
sorry i had a moment, it turns out the only captive asiatic cheetah was in iran and it wasnt a specimen from wild about cats, it was one from iran that the parks website talked about
 
as far as i am aware duisburg zoo is the only zoo that has an amazon river dolphin. they use to have 2 but i believe they only have one now. not positive tho.

Edit: yeah IsIs confirmed just one river dolphin and only at duisburg

also according to isis sumatran rhinos are only at Cincinnati and..... White Oak conservation center in yulee, Fl????? i heard they were working on expanding the breeding program and trying to gain more genetic diversity. so it is possible the zoos listed by nerd is future plans for holding the animals in captivity. sorry if im nit picking... =(

The zoos he listed are the zoos where he saw them previously. I have also seen Sumatran Rhinos at LA Zoo and San Diego. They no longer hold them.

The Maned Wolves have been removed from Wildlife World as they are not AZA any longer. Phoenix still has theirs though, Romeo is quite a handsome boy!

Monterey bay just got in a new great white shark last august. its a male 5 to 6 feet long. 6th one they've had on display. they release all of them after various periods of time depending on how well they eat, and over all health. one was released because it was hunting its tank mates in its deep ocean tank. only one shark hadn't survived after being released because it was later caught in a net. just some interesting stuff i found.

Toronto Zoo no longer has Dall's Sheep :( Just as a bit of a tidbit to their Dalls's Sheep keeping days, they used to have them in two enclosures, one in the old Canadian Domain in addition to their more well known one where their rock is just being used for decorative purposes.

I should think he will have seen Sirocco, and it would have been at Auckland Zoo, or possibly Zealandia.
