Rarest animals seen in a zoo or aquarium

not mentioned before I guess ( and realy rare ) the yellow-eared conure in the 1980-ties at Walsrode.
Other rare Walsrode species :
Red-necked, St. Vincent and Imperial Amazones
Storms stork
New Caledonian Imperial Pigeon
Milky stork
Shoebill
Giant coot
Spix macaw and many others. Most of these species are not kept anymore.

I think this may just be for species rare in zoos currently in captivity. Has anyone mentioned the Raccoon Dog in U.S. zoos? They're pretty rare with only three places holding them.

Welcome to ZooChat!! I hope you enjot your experience:D If you ever need a place to blow off some steam or you want to post some random fact or funny video or anything that seems out of place in an existing thread there's this neat thread some cool member started called The Nonsense Thread you can visit.

Ohh what 3 places have them? I believe the only Raccoon Dog's I've ever seen were at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo in 2006. And I don't think they have them anymore.

London Zoo also has Leadbeater's Possums, if I am not mistaken.

Not for some years now, sadly. They were one of the highlights of my earlier visits.

I am sorry you found the videos hard to take ThylacineAlive. I do wish you well in your work.

Edinburgh have a few-
Pygmy slow loris, hamlyn monkeys, douroucoulis, Kuhl's hog deer, Asian golden cat, aardwolf, single wattles cassawory, and the blue eyed black lemurs.

The Hamlyn's monkey have recently left the collection and the single wattled cassowaries haven't been in the collection for at least 10 years.

must be getting confused with double wattled:o
I saw Malayan white handed gibbons in jurques, are they rare. According to zootierliste jurques is one of three collections in Europe to have them.

Trotters world of animals held Pichi armadillos for a brief spell, are they rare?

I would venture to say Pichi are not currently in any American zoos. Private collections who knows...Does anyone know what South American Zoos have them? I'm sure there's gotta be some?

After consulting the entire south America gallery:p, no picture directly says Pichi armadillo. I have asked four zoos that have pictures of armadillo exhibits, with no specified species. I am awaiting results.:p;)

Wow way to go epickoala:D I'm sure there are some zoos in South America that hold the species that aren't really known by us hear on ZooChat. How'd you ask the zoos? Email?

Yeah thanks epickoala, that was mighty epic of you! Yeah it might be the case that it's some small zoo in the home range of the Pichi that has a couple. But I would like to know considering I'm planning on being in that home range in a few months. :D
