On Feb. 2013 19 Siamese crocs were releasd near the village Than Soum in the Xe Champhone wetland complex in Savanakhet province in the Lao PDR.
The eggs from which the young hatched had been found in this area and brought to the Lao Zoo where they were raised for the last 19 months. Now that they are big enough they were released in a pen were they still recieve some kind of care. When the wet seizun starts in several months the pen will be flooded and the crocs will be completly free.
I know of similar projects on the Philippines and other places but even so I would like to know if other zooChatters can inform us about other croc-release projects.

There have been many other similar projects with a variety of species around the world. I know a lot of work has been done with Siamese crocs in Thailand. Other examples in Asia include salties across the Far East, gharials & muggers in India, and Chinese alligators:

Critically Endangered Alligators, Born and Raised at WCS?s Bronx Zoo, Now Multiplying in China's Wild - Wildlife Conservation Society

There have also been projects involving Orinoco crocodiles and several caiman species in South America, Nile crocs (+slender-snouted?) in West Africa, a sucessful programme for Cuban crocodile reintroduction; the list goes on...

With these examples in mind, I think we need to start a reintroduction project for american alligators into New York sewers. I mean I used to hear about that when I was a kid but have not heard it in a long time and I fear the species has been extirpated. :p
