I am a retired Prof doing a non-funded study of the Red Foot tortoise. I am looking at growth curves of some parameters for this study. If you have this species in your park or private collection can you share the following data with me? :year of birth, sex, weight of the animal, plastron length, and carapace length from neck to origin of the tail.

Sincerely, Donald Dorfman PhD

Have you considered reaching out to Species360 for this information? They would probably be able to provide you with a fairly decent data set, at least for age sex, and weight (as well as a list of holders should you wish to reach out for the rest of the data)

Most of us here don't work in zoos, we just like visiting them. You might be better off contacting Species360 like Aardwolf suggested, along with the AZA to find out which zoos are doing the most with the species.

I was not very successful with my zoo requests. I am no longer associated with a Univ. (though I am Prof Emeritus). The AZA forms are not applicable primarily because of my present lack of univ. affiliation. I want numbers. After going through the process of filling AZA forms for two zoos, The zoo personnel told me they did not have that species. I thought that I might have a few positive responses at this site. Red Foot breeders don't seem to want to spare the time. I'm going to call Species360. Thanks for the lead. Don D.

A few things I've come across that you might be able to reach out to. They might not be able to directly help, but they might know who would be better to contact. You probably know some of these but just in case:
- Chelonian Research Foundation Chelonian Research Foundation
- IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group
- Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles
- Turtle Survival Alliance, who were involved with the old Chelonian TAG Turtle Survival Alliance
- A lot of states have organizations called "turtle and tortoise club/society", in addition to regular herp societies.
- I've seen the name Chris Tabaka, DVM come up several times in connection with previous chelonian groups, he has a linkedin page.
- Searching for "Chelonian Advisory Group" brought up some documents from within the last decade that have contact info on them

To find some zoos with the species, you can search for it by name on here, as well. Photos in the media gallery may be especially helpful.
