Common vole overpopulation attracted at least 3 territorial pairs of red-footed falcon to central Morava (area between Olomouc and Prostejov) this year. Two pairs managed to fledge their chicks! They have 4 and 3 chicks per nest. Another pair with small chicks was found in southern Morava (havent seen report if they fledged or not).

Red-footed falcon is steppe living colonial breeding little falcon that actually died out in Czechia in 1970s. Nearest regular breeding localities are at city Bratislava and at Neusiedl lake in Austria.
Common vole overpopulation in 2019 attracted 1 breeding pair to central Morava region near city Olomouc that fledged 5 youngsters. A big sensation at that time. And while local ornitologists tried to attract more pairs by hanging breeding boxes around that area in next spring, it took 4 years to see this species breed again (in another locations).
It would be cool if a small permanent breeding colony could settle here.
