Gorgeous name, and the name me and my girlfriend have picked if we ever have a little girl, so it gets my approval :D.

In serious though, we'll have to get used to calling her Lily now and not Miri :p

Good to finally clear that up, no idea why they had "Miri" on the old website. Odd though that "Lily" is hardly any different, it's English (from Latin) origin, correct JR?

For what it's worth, I asked Tim Rowlands on Saturday how names are chosen and he said that it had nothing to do with the studbook holder, but apparently it just takes time for everyone to agree.

Not surprising. It takes us weeks if not months to decide on names every time we get a new member of the household!

Sorry SMR, I don't know, just goin with the missus (tis a nice name, and more importantly one we agree on :o)

A lovely name - my late grandmas.

But I'm saddened that Tim didn't put forward my suggestion of Jeff. Prehaps he's going to save it for a male birth.

Well they have a few animals due to give birth over the next few months so Tim could just be holding back for you:)

It's a shame the website is such a joke now. Nothing on any new arrivals. The latest news is from the 14th September. After all the moeny that must have been invested they would be keen to keep it up to date.

Also just noticed the map is a mess. Does not work correctly.

Giraffe cam is still not working - i'm beginning to doubt it will ever work again.

I noticed the map a while back and it gave me a bit of a laugh to be honest, when I put the cursor over one area and it mentioned it was an exhibit at the other end of the zoo. However, checking now it seems to have been fixed :)

As for the giraffe cam, this was brought up on facebook and they say they hope it to be working for October half-term.

Five years ago I used to rely on all the zoo websites for news, but they have nearly all gone increasingly downhill in that direction. Zoochat is nowadays a much better source...:)

Couldn't agree more with that. Have seen much more news on any new arrivals on here than from any zoo site. Surely they must realise how useful a well presented up to date site can be.

Yes the initial cost can be a lot. However, it takes minutes to keep a site fully updated.

I don't understand why zoos don't make more use of the internet. But then I don't really understand why they are so reluctant to announce news generally. Colchester may be the exception. I've just received the usually disappointing and also misleadingly titled 'Zoo News' for Paignton's members. It's largely a repetition of the sparse news from the website with several full page photos. Nice as they are, I do know what a gorilla looks like, for example, and I would rather read something about them and the other animals at the zoo. Ironically, there's a photo of a Cassowary on the cover, but there's no mention of the recent death of Alfie, the male, something that is common knowledge among regulars.

Didn't realise he had passed away. The enclosure was empty the last time we were there. Very sad. As for the Paignton Zoo news magazine, it might as well be used a toilet paper.
