To start off the new year of recovery of 2021, the first rediscovered animal is found in my home state of California in Santa Catalina Island which I plan to go to soon, after not being seen for 15 years, elusive and endemic Santa Catalina Island Shrew (subspecies of Ornate Shrew) has been rediscovered caught by camera traps set by scientists.

No word on the Tule Shrew being Rediscovered? It is listed as possibly extinct, also a subspecies of the Ornate shrew. Confined to the Baja california peninsula, Hasn't been rediscovered since 1905.
Anyway, Super cool! If you have a camera trap maybe you could catch one! :)

This Species was never declared fully Extinct, Just locally extinct in some areas of South Australia. And the whole "Zombie fish" thing is just cringy.

Weird how they went with the "zombie fish" thing.

I thought we already had a decent term for species that were thought extinct and then rediscovered as "Lazarus species".

Maybe the "zombie" thing has increased attention for the Southern purple-spotted gudgeon in the media though ?

I think the latter was probably true. "Lazarus species" probably wouldn't draw in as many people to click on the article. I would though!
