Ree Park - Ebeltoft Safari Ree Park

Black Rhino, Bashira (B2009 at Chester, Magadi X Ema Elsa) gave birth to a female calf on Monday evening. The second Black Rhino birth in Scandinavia :)

The calf was named Shaya and appeared to be doing well - unfortunately she fell ill over the weekend and was found dead this morning. Early post-mortem results indicate she may have been accidently kicked by another animal and sustained kidney damage

Does anyone know what animals the black rhinos are housed with (are they in the same enclosure as any other animals) within the african savannah?

Last summer, they lived with giraffe, impala, common eland, waterbuck, blue wildebeest, and ostrich. The exhibit used to have Selous' zebras as well, but apparently these had some bouts with the rhinos.

Apparently Bashira the Black Rhino has unfortunately died at the Safari Park, especially sad news as she was 7 months pregnant :(

Guys,
Can anyone help me find info how many katanga lions are at Ree?
I know there was a baby boom this year, but its not easy find all the data. Zootierliste mentiones 11 newborn in 2022. Is that correct? Additionally how many "grown ups" are there?

Trying to build katanga lions database. For any info many thanks!

A bit late, but this year Ree Park opened a new area called "Junior Ranger World" aimed at children. The focus is on education with no new animal exhibits, but children can drive an electric land rover on a track that passes through the vicuna/mara exhibit.

Another change I noticed from my visit there is that the Giant Anteater has been moved to the lemur island, with the old enclosure lying vacant.

Some updates: the Dwarf Zebu enclosure is getting an expansion that about doubles its size. Also I have been told that the old anteater enclosure will become a covered space for the golden handed tamarins.
