Westminster City Council received, on 4th September 2012, an application for Permission to Provide Temporary Catering Facilities on one of the lawns at London Zoo. This is for the duration (approx. 9 months) while the proposed works to the existing restaurant facility is undertaken (covered under application 12/01804/FULL).

Erection of marquee to provide catering facilities on the 'Great Lawn' at London Zoo with temporary toilet facilities for a period of nine months while the existing restaurant facility is refurbished.

Construction of Temporary Cafe has started

De Boer started construction today, Monday 5th November 2012, of the Temporary Cafe on the Picnic Lawn in between the Pelicans, Amphitheatre and Display Lawn.

They will erect an Alu Hall structure, which will incorporate glass panels within its walls, and will be partitioned and fitted out by the client to create a large public dining room plus separate kitchen and staff area.

The restaurant will open to the public on 1st December 2012 and is expected to stay in place for nine months and can be used for events.

Regent's Building Cafe

I forgot to say they've also applied for planning permission to extend the Regent Restaurant.

A number of times I've tried to go in there (on quite quiet days) and been turned away as it's too full!

Each time I've been left thinking how much money are they losing (which could be spent on conservation or on the zoo itself) when they are turning away people (and their food, in fairness like most, is not cheap).

The plans are on the Westminster Council planning website.

By the way planning permission has been granted for the restaurant, to make it bigger (replacing the 1965 front extension) and the new camel enclosure.

I presume you've both seen the plans for the actual restaurant/cafe as well.

I was half expecting them to start in December on it as like I said above they are losing potential money.
