Sloth habitat in South America begins construction this month (Jan 2023).

World of Play (kids area) is progressing with prep work on underground utilities. Final opening should be at an undisclosed date in 2023.

Construction of the new parking lot should start later this month (Jan 2023). Lot will serve the zoo and the neighboring adaptive recreation area and surrounding park.

New lot will make room to begin construction of Asia Expansion in old parking lot (location of this project has been moved twice). Construction is slated to begin September 2023 with an anticipated opening of Fall 2025.

On January 7th, the zoo announced they acquired (0.0.2) domestic ferrets which will be used as ambassador animals and also will be on exhibit in the Conservation Learning Center.

March 2023: fencing just went up to begin construction on a new parking lot for the zoo and adjacent adaptive recreation center/pool. Completion is scheduled for fall 2023, at which point the current parking lot will be closed for construction of the new Asia exhibit (anticipated opening fall 2025).

The zoo announced that male king vulture Phil and a crested jay passed away from avian influenza. A scarlet ibis has also tested positive and is currently being monitored in their hospital. The zoo's aviaries are closed to the public until further notice.
