The double-spurred francolin is Critically Endangered in Morocco, restricted to three different areas (Sidi Yahya Zaer, Sidi Bettache, and Benslimane). Formerly, they were much more widespread but disappeared from much of their range in the 1970s and 80s.

To restore the species to its former range, several reintroductions have happened over the past couple of years.

On 31st December 2021, 100 francolins were released into a temporary enclosure near Oulmès. After acclimatising, they will be released into a reserve in the Central Plateau, which is both part of the species' historic range and close to their current stronghold.

On 29th December 2022, 120 double-spurred francolins were released in the Souss-Massa National Park. After a 3-week acclimatisation period, the birds will be released into the Rockein Reserve inside the National Park.
