It's that time of year again and people are keen to start new news threads with content for the new year.
We do have strict rules about creating new threads for a new year:
It is generally best to continue discussions about a specific topic in the year in which that discussion started - wait until there is new information before posting in a new thread.
To make it easier, here are the local times after which it would be okay to start a new year news thread:
We do have strict rules about creating new threads for a new year:
- do not create new year-based news threads until everyone is on the 1st of January
- This means not before 12:00PM UTC (midday GMT) on the 1st of January - people in Hawaii are almost a full day behind people in NZ, so best to wait until it is the new year for everyone
- do not create new threads without meaningful content
- Don't post until you actually have some news
- Also, don't go hunting for the smallest bit of trivia about a zoo just so you can start a new thread!
- Any thread news started for the new year before Jan 1st will be deleted
- Any thread started without meaningful content will be deleted
