Reptile Village Conservation Zoo Reptile Village, Kilkenny

I have been there a few times including this year. It is worth a visit and takes a few hours to see everything at your leisure. There are some venomous snakes Incl. king, spitting and spectacled cobra, green mamba etc. and some really large lizards and three crocodile species. A small nocturnal section and some spiders and amphibians. The talks are very good and staff are chatty. The enclosures are ok and some are very good and quite big. It is easily the best reptile collection in ireland.

Sounds like Quite an exciting collection! I will certainly have to make my way there at some point. Does the nocturnal section have reptiles or does it consist of small mammals and similar species?

Spiders and scorpions. I think. The crocs are American and Chinese alligators. Cuban and african dwarf crocs. They also have huge monitors and iguanas which are very impressive.

I am pleasantly surprised that they have Chinese alligators and Cuban crocodiles. I wonder if they breed those species- they have a very good crocodilian collection.

Interesting article about the zoo (Although, it seems to call some type of cat snake 'Rascal the python'): 'You need a licence to own a dog but not a crocodile': Lack of exotic animal laws puts public at risk

The owner of the zoo, James Hennessy talks about the laws in Ireland, regarding the ownership of reptiles, and how they aren't as rigid as in some other countries and how this is harmful to both animals and their owners. There is also information about how the zoo takes in mistreated crocodilians from criminals.

Additionally, some bushmasters are mentioned to have been hatched and are awaiting a transfer to Singapore.

I feel like some1 needs to pass a law that you need a license to buy a crocodilian in Ireland
