Oakland Zoo Review of Oakland Zoo

San Diego must have some luck when it comes to animal breeding.:p

Also, one thing I think it would be nice for Oakland zoo to consider are ether African penguins or mangellic penguins. They would be an awesome addition to the zoo. They can remodel the alligator pool to make it more suitable for penguins. The one thing I don't want to happen for the Oakland zoo is that the zoo will get way to popular. Prices for the zoo will increase due to more tourists making it harder for locals to pay. That's my main worry about the zoo but seeing how this new Californian trail is the first of many changes to the zoo, I'm excited to see what the future holds.

While I was typing this, I just thought of something. Maybe they can replace the chimps with a snow leopard pair. Is the exhibit to small?

I honestly think they should just get rid of the chimp exhibit as a whole. Cages aren't necessarily attractive for zoo's anymore. I would rather see large, open, naturalistic enclosures.

The muntjac exhibit is quite large, right? Maybe the zoo could turn that into a more realistic chimp exhibit. The current chimp enclosure could hold howler monkeys.

General adult admission is $11, which is a buck overpriced.

In 2021, I paid $24 for just the admission ticket... plus another $10 for parking and $2 for an online processing fee. $36 in total. So if you thought it was overpriced by a buck before... :p

I guess running that gondola justifies the higher price? I haven’t been back to see the new complex.

That could be part of it. However, I started to compare ticket prices you listed for zoo trips 10+ years ago to ticket prices listed online today and found startlingly increased ticket prices are actually the norm. Most of the zoos you visited in the late 2000's and early 2010's had ticket prices somewhere between $10 and $14, but most of those zoos now have prices between $15 and $25, with several now having $10 parking fees on top of that. It seems that zoo ticket prices have far outpaced inflation (using Oakland as an example, 2010-2021 inflation would have only increased the $11 ticket to $14).
