ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Review

Who is the male and where from?

The Whipsnade male Indian rhino is ‘Hugo’.

According to the Indian Rhinoceros Studbook, he was born in Rotterdam Zoo on 7th December 2002. He arrived at Whipsnade on 4th April 2008; he was at Warsaw Zoo prior to coming to Whipsnade.

Next we saw a lone male Gaur which was a shame. Is he new or just a breeding male?

Any ideas on this? Looked like Blackbuck but much bigger.

I have some questions about this area as I saw two Red River Hogs behind it. Any ideas where they came from or why they are at Whipsnade? Also some unidentified Deer where next to the Hogs. What are they?

On the map it says that there is nothing opposite the Oryx but we found a large collection of female Greater Kudu. They were lovely to watch. Have the Arabian Oryx left?

1. He's neither, he was born there. There is(or should be) a female in the adjacent yard- his mother. Father died.

2. Nile Lechwe.

3. Born at London Zoo(?) most likely. ( Whipsnade take surplus animals from London)

4.Sitatunga antelope.

5. Kudu are one young male and five females.

6 Arabian Oryx are just inside Asian Plains entrance, on right.
