I just finished reading the book Clara's Grand Tour about an indian rhinoceros that travelled Europe in the mid 1700's. After a couple years of touring, her horn mysteriously fell off. The author states this is a phenomenon that has occured with captive rhinos throughout history and is still a problem for zookeepers. Yet I have never heard of this happening.
Does anyone know if this is true? If so, does it happen to all species or only indian rhinos?
