Alright, I can see you and your political corectness do not understand my point. My terrifying world is actually a realistic world.

It's nothing to do with political correctness - I'm asking you to accept that thinking someone's (likely to be) a criminal because they're wearing baggy trousers is both profoundly unfair and entirely illogical. I'm not going to argue it further, because I've said all there is to say.

We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

The topic of this thread (though I agree it should be moved), is about London. Unlike where I grew up (and perhaps where you live too), London isn't ghettoised, poor live next to rich, its why I love this city, so middle-class folk mix all the time with folk who sound like your descripiton of criminals, maybe you're just less exposed to other cultures/dress styles in the parts of the city you live in?

I'm going to end saying that not all people who wear baggy clothes are criminals. However, from what I've seen, a much higher percentage are than wear decent clothing. And its not unfair to judge someone who takes no care in their appearance.

Again, no disrespect of offense meant to either of you.

Who is it who decides what is 'decent clothing', exactly?

Stuff that isn't 5 sizes too large, covered in holes, or has something offensive on it.

This is utter nonsense. Having clothes with holes is nothing to do with being a criminal - half the pairs of jeans in any high street shop in the UK have pre-made holes in them, because it's the fashion. People wear baggy clothes for all kinds of reasons. I really don't get why people's sartorial choices should be factored in to crimefighting.

Reading back through this I may have said some things that were somewhat extreme. I apologize for this, and am asking for a moderator to please close this thread.

I think it is unnecessary to close the thread but it should be moved to one of the off-topic forums.

I'm really pleased that we could address these issues because apart from talking about it at work I haven't really had the chance to say how I feel about things and somehow process what is going on.

And whilst I don't agree with everything that has been said I think we have had a civil discussion with a variety of views represented.

Let's just agree we are done with baggy pants.

May I just point out that criminals with baggy trousers would be less able to run from the police?

And had to post this.... Madness - Baggy Trousers - YouTube

Meanwhile, many of the debates (here and elsewhere) seem to be degenerating into a fight between the 'string em up' brigade and the 'lets work on the causes' group. Were it to come to an actual fistfight I sort of have a suspicion which side would be the more violent, disruptive, and like the actual rioters.

I'm going to close this thread as its now got no relevance to London Zoo. Please continue in the Cafe if you wish.
