A few observations from my last visit on Sunday:
  1. There are now 2.1 Cape Parrots in the former African Dwarf Crocodile exhibit.
  2. Most of the birds in the Mekong Aviary have been removed, and there are only a few miscellaneous storks, lapwings and an Oriental Pied Hornbill
  3. The River Gems exhibit that used to contain Dwarf Rasbora and Bintan Licorice Gourami is now empty. Also, the Rainbowfish and Harlequin Rasbora have swapped tanks.
 
updates on today's trip:

1. 2 Red-crested Turacos added to the Malawi paludarium and 1 Black Pond Turtle added to Lion-tailed Macaque enclosure

2. no more African Arowana in the Nile tank, no more Painted Terrapin in Gharial tank and no more Nankeen Night Heron in Mekong Aviary

3. Arrau Turtle has been relocated back into the Dwarf Caiman pond from the Gharial tank

4. all except 1.0 Red-bellied Piranhas are exported. he too will be transferred out at a later date
 
Why they get rid off the piranhas??? This is an icon species for the Amazon and very popular even among visitors who are not so interested in fish.

Were you informed by park staff that the Piranhas were exported?

Will they refocus the Aquarium on S.E. Asian freshwater fish and other faunas?

That's a Chinese stripe-necked turtle. Perhaps the young false gharial will be moved once it outgrows that enclosure so hopefully Chinese alligators can return there. Weirdly enough Night Safari's still keeping the old style

Not really, more so Africa and Asia focused for the rivers zone ever since they replaced the Mississippi River area and the large South American side

I honestly like the old version better, the new one doesn’t list any species.:(

If the plans are still to attempt to breed the Chinese Alligators then they will not return. From what I understand the exhibit is much too small to support breeding animals, and since a plan is in the pipeline to remove the South-east Asian themed turtle pond from Reptile Garden at the zoo, the turtles will remain there at River Wonders indefinitely, unless of course the plans change again.

The former Golden-headed Lion Tamarin island at Reptile Garden was tweaked slightly to support breeding of the gators.

The False Gharial should be headed to Rainforest Park eventually, along with most of the other crocodilians (Estuarine, Siamese, and Philippine) from the zoo apart from the Chinese Alligator.

They need to get a male Chinese Alligator first though to restart the breeding program.

Also I've heard about (some of) the False Gharials and Philippine Crocodiles heading to Rainforest Wild, but not the other 2 species. Do you know what they will happen to the vacated crocodilian exhibits at Reptile Garden?
 
Yes you are right, but since they are a part of the SSP for the alligator I don't foresee them shifting them back to River Wonders only to move them back to the zoo.

I am not certain if plans will change again, last I'm aware of is that the Borneo Marsh is acting as a holding exhibit for Panjang before he heads out to Rainforest Wild. I believe a Tomistoma will eventually take his place, again I am not too sure.

No idea what is to happen to the space beside Sungei Buaya. They may decide to open up the back gate and allow the gharials to access the holding spaces.
 
The 2 small tanks at Amazon Flooded Forest that used to house tetras/cockatoo cichlids and plecos are in the process of being replaced by a single large floor to ceiling tank.
