River Wonders River Wonders news 2024

Glad to hear the return of the Chinese giant salamander. Is the enclosure big enough to mix more than 1 salamander along with the Chinese highfin loaches?

I know we used to have 2 of these Salamanders on display at the same time at some point, seperated by glass. But with the High-Fin Loaches I'm not too sure, maybe they'll return back to the Amur Sturgeon enclosure?

I've gotten news that the Chinese Giant Salamander's signboard is finally up, I'll be heading there tomorrow to double check if that information is true and if the salamander is on display too

I've also managed to get an image that is allegedly posted on the Curator's Facebook page of the little goober

Finally had a check by the Giant Salamander enclosure, not signboard for the species itself

But there's these, which I don't recall if were taken down or always there.

Small update:

The extra info boards for the Electric Eel have been moved to where the new tank will be, the only thing currently remaining by that old enclosure is the animal signboard

Also the Manatee enclosure looks a little less green today compared to the last time I went, though still pretty green

Are there plans to fix the filtration system for the indian gharial exhibit,is barely visible to see the gharial underwater.

Afaik, the filtration system is not broken. It's just, a hassle to maintain. I was one of the few people that did maintenance on their filters, and it could have taken up to half a day just to clear the backwash and clearing the pre-filter baskets (not to mention sorting out actual disposable waste from the 100s of fish that get sucked into it on the daily.) And any changes to the filtration system will have to have the entire exhibit drained, closed off, and will take a long time to ensure the plumbing fits and what not.

I'm not sure if something of that scale is possible now, especially since that would mean having to find a temporary holding zone for the Gharials, Osteolaemus, Batagurs and all the Geoclemys while they work on revamping it.

Just some very small little things to add:

1. Some small fish were added in the Titicaca Water Frog enclosure. Anyone can help me identify em?

2. The water in the Manatee Tank is still a decent chunk greenish. Probably still gonna take a while to be fully back to its clear colouring

3. This little float was added to the Giant River Otter enclosure enclosure, I find this pretty cute

4. Water has been added to the new Electric Eel tank, seems like it might be moving in soon

Two individuals of this fish species have been added to the Mekong River small tank. Would greatly appreciate an ID
