According to the zoos latest meeting notes, it will be phasing out it elephant program for at least the short term. The 2 elephants it currently has will be sent to another zoo and replaced by rhino (unknown species). The zoo hopes to identify space to bring elephants back eventually according to the notes.

North Carolina Zoo is the most likely candidate, unless there's something going on with their herd which would make that a bad choice.
I actually doubt this will happen for two reasons. First of all the North Carolina Zoo just recently finished a project that has allowed all 4 of its females to be with either bull. This allows all elephants to be on exhibit at all times. Bringing two new elephants into the mix would mess this up. Second of all the zoo seems to be pretty focused on breeding elephants, as I have heard that they are disappointed that they have yet to have success with the species. They still have one breeding age female and either of the two males are free ro breed with her, but so far no success. I believe if any new elephants were added to the mix they would be breeding age females. So I don’t see NC as a likely destination for the elephants. Instead I would suggest Atlanta as the most likely destination with their new exhibit opening next year.
I hope it's Milwaukee. Adventure Africa will have room for 5-6 elephants. Currently there are 2 at Milwaukee's County Zoo
