2 cats, a (1.0) tiger named Ussuri and a (1.0) puma named Diego passed away due to avian influenza. The female tiger named Nika could be avian flu, but also found to have ovarian cancer and an enlarged kidney. The other male, Mateo, was never tested for avian flu.

The article also mentions they will acquire a (0.1) brown bear named Finley from Reid Park Zoo in Arizona, which will be on exhibit in early 2023.

On July 21st, the zoo announced that a (0.1) Reeve's muntjac named Leah passed away at age 15 on July 14th due to age-related health issues.

Also on July 21st, the zoo announced that a (1.0) common squirrel monkey named Macadamia passed away at age 22.5 on July 16th due to liver failure caused by old age.

The zoo will be getting 2 lions from Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo per the director's report to the Scottsbluff City Council yesterday.

On July 24th, the zoo announced that (0.0.2) trumpeter swans hatched.

On October 19th, it was reported that due to the zoo losing the AZA accreditation, they will no longer be receiving the 2 African lions. It was also reported that the zoo transferred the trumpeter swans to a facility in Idaho.

On January 15th, 2025, it was reported that the zoo hired a new Executive Director, Kei Hodgson, who most recently managed Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa.

That is No. 2 in a short time ... (June 2024 - they hired an interim Executive!). Wonder what an individual with experience at this PAAZAB South African wildlife facility may do for the zoo. They need some good leadership to get back on the road to AZA accredition, ... that is for sure and better funding base ... it seems.
