Riverview Park & Zoo Riverview Park and Zoo

The zoo is closing for the foreseeable future to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Glad the zoo has been able to open in some capacity. It must be one of the last zoos to open. Luckily for the zoo its funded by the city so there wasn't as much pressure to reopen. It is a very narrow zoo from my memory of it. Paths aren't that wide. While they could create a one way loop they may have still been concerned about possible congestion. The zoo is free so there is no gate to regulate how many can come in. It's more of a unique situation.

In this article we get the first clear reasoning as to why the zoo is just about the only zoo to not reopen. The zoo houses 7 species they know are susceptible to covid and a huge investment would need to be made to keep them safe. The article doesn't directly say it but sounds like they just don't have the funds and rather than risk the vulnerable species they will just stay closed instead for the time being.

Some animals at Riverview Park and Zoo in Peterborough might be lonely during the pandemic

For aspiring zoo keepers the Riverview Park and Zoo has a job posting up for a 1 year contract for a zoo keeper position. I know some on here are looking for those kinds of opportunities so thought I would post it.

@kingoffreaks never hurts to apply. It's not like applying is a job offer. Might just be good practice if you make it to the interview stage or just see how your resume fairs. And if you rocked it and got the job then you have a choice to make but you will have all of the job related information to make that call with.

The zoo finally has a big boy website. What they had before hardly qualified as a website. It was one page with a list of animals that was part of some Peterborough power site. It looks like its possibly been up for sometime since the start of 2020. Can't say I have had a reason to look at it in years. Kinda stumbled across it right now by accident.
