Roger Williams Park Zoo Roger Williams Park Zoo News 2021

Per the zoo's "magazine", Ostrich and Bactarian Camels will be going on exhibit soon, along with a white alligator. The alligator is a loan and will only be on exhibit Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Where in the zoo will these animals be going?
I think it's pretty obvious where the camels will be going- where the now-deceased Dromedary camels used to live.

The ostriches are a little more tricky to figure out, but I only see two logical choices. The first, and more likely option, is mixing them with the zebras, wildebeest, and watusi. If this doesn't happen, the other option is mixing them with the Giraffe. Regardless, it will be nice to see the zoo add some more diversity to their Africa section.

While neither of these species would be my first choice of new animals, I am glad to see some new residents coming to the zoo. I was really hoping the camels would be replaced by a wild Asian hoofstock, such as prezwalskis horse, but Bactrian camels will be a nice new addition. Ostriches are also going to be a nice way to add new animals to the existing Africa area- as the zebra exhibit is very large for a small number of residents. I really hope that in the future they look at getting some sort of Antelope species for that Exhibit. There are plenty that would make fantastic new residents and would readily mix with the other residents.

Have no idea. The exhibit is in the greenhouse though, so maybe some butterflies?
It's unlikely they could put butterflies in with the alligator, but they could possibly put in a few small animals in their as well. When the Rainforest was closed, the sakis had an exhibit in that greenhouse, perhaps they could reuse that exhibit for something.

On May 21st, the zoo updated its COVID guidelines, now saying that visitors who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to wear masks outdoors and inside exhibits, except in the Faces of the Rainforest.

On May 22nd, the zoo announced a new e-waste recycling program in which visitors can donate old electronic devices to be recycled to protect habitat loss of gorillas.

There are two new wildebeests at the zoo. Shades of Nature has the Albino Alligator along with an Albino Rat Snake, and baby alligators. Also, the new ostriches will be placed in the Auodad exhibit. The Bactrian camels are coming soon and are on loan for one year. I give credit to “I Am The Lion Rider’s” new video of the Roger Williams Park Zoo for this information.
