I know I’m a bit late to this discussion, but why did the zoo get the ostriches in the first place if they were just gonna get rid of them? They redid all the signs and everything to accommodate ostriches and now they’re gone. Were they just housing them for another zoo that was doing construction to their ostrich habitat? The ostriches have left the zoo and the site of that enclosure is being prepared for construction of the education center.
Molly the last aoudad was not often on exhibit in her final year of life and the ostriches were brought in so that the exhibit would not be empty for visitors. I imagine it was also important to have an animal in case funding for the new education center wasn't passed by Rhode Island citizens. While the source of these ostriches is unknown to me, I don't think it was an AZA facility. It was probably an ostrich farm or something similar.I know I’m a bit late to this discussion, but why did the zoo get the ostriches in the first place if they were just gonna get rid of them?
