Roger Williams Park Zoo Roger Williams Park Zoo news 2024

There are officially birds on exhibit in the new entrance aviary! The birds that I saw are: two Lady Ross' turacos, two blue-bellied rollers, two hadada ibises, and four speckled pigeons. Trumpeter hornbills were also signed.

I also saw three speckled mousebirds, which have been placed on exhibit in the aviary inside World of Adaptations, alongside the Bali mynahs and eastern rosellas.

While not "news", per say, another interesting sighting was a wild black-crowned night heron in the wetlands, not a species that's seen very often so that was a neat surprise!

Does anybody have any pictures of the penguin construction? If they are changing the enclosure at all. And did the zoo confirm that the penguins would be in the zoo this summer?

Any information on causes of escape. It is more than coincidental two incidents happened in clear succession?!!!

The Kirk's dik-dik has returned to exhibit, being mixed with the black-crowned cranes again! That said, the bat-eared foxes, which were mixed with the cranes, are no longer on exhibit. No word on if/when/where they will return to exhibit, or if they are even still at the zoo.

In other news, there is now a fifth scarlet ibis in Faces of the Rainforest.

Could the foxes and dik-dik be rotated with the black-crowned cranes on certain days?

Notes from a visit on 6/15/24.
The hornbills were present in the African Aviary and there were 2 Hamerkops present in addition to the previously mentioned species.
I was told by a worker that the Bat-eared Fox is still at the zoo but behind the scenes. They said it was due to lack of digging opportunities but they were trying to figure things out.
The small aviary by the giraffes is currently empty but will soon have starlings, weavers and rollers. (I do not know the exact species)
Caught all or most of the secondary bird show that takes place in the barnyard. The birds I saw were a Pied Crow, Kea and a Black-throated Magpie-jay.
Lastly one of the Boat-billed Herons was on a nest but they don't know if it contains any eggs.
