The media loves a story with pictures of a wounded animal. This particular Kangaroo was on the edge of a city and an act of animal crulty, targeted by someone illegaly.

Legal kangaroo shooting takes place on private property and at night. Several million are shot each year but there are still may more kangaroos in Australia than before white settlement.
