Hamerton is building a new tiger house and enclosures, but at first it will house the current pair and another pair of White Tiger!

The 'at first' possibly being significant. So maybe there will only be one holder at any one time.

Indeed it could.

But I find that I get told far more stuff by not posting every bit of news I get told by my many contacts up and down the country, there by the zoo its self gets the benefit of the publicity,by breaking news itself!

You are right and you never actually stated Hamerton were getting Malayan tigers on their news thread. That was just the assumption people have made from comments/hints made by yourself & another member! They could have been Indochinese or South China- though that is obviously VERY unlikely!

So is the RSCC open right now? It appears as though it opens and closes every so often. May someone explain why (I suspect zoogiraffe would be in the best position to so based on his friendship with the owner)?

At the moment I believe the park is closed to the public, but watch this space is the best I can say!

I visited a few years ago when it had only been open a short while, it was rather chaotic with building work going on all around. I remember the black and white lemurs who lived in an open fronted enclosure it looked very odd I assume they belonged to the original owners of the zoo/ nursery whatever it was before. It had very good potential and the indoor tropical house could have made a wonderful walk through area for the marmosets that it displayed in tall cages. I wish it well.

Another pair of rusty-spotted cat kittens born- the third litter of 2013, consisting of a male and a female. The father was a Sri Lankan born founder animal and the mother was born in a French zoo. It brings the total number of rusty-spotted cats at RSCC to 13, and consists of the most genetically important group outside of Sri Lanka.

*Except for India

Where and what is to be gained from India (or is that a different subspecies?)?

All the captive Rusty Cats in Europe are the Sri Lankan subspecies - in fact I don't believe anywhere outside India holds the Indian ssp.

Great news regarding the Malayan Tiger at RSCC incidentally, even if it comes under the category of a species that I'll likely be bored by once I've seen it the first time!

Coming from someone who has seen Malayan Tigers a few times, yes you will. They're still my favorite subspecies however.

Really? It's a Malayan tiger, it's pretty impressive even if a little too large for your personal tastes! :p
It's not like they're at Chester or Edinburgh so you won't see them regularly! ;)

Oh, I'll be very pleased when I eventually - wherever it is - see my first Malayan Tiger ;) and I would be very happy were they to become more common and "zoo" tigers less common. But tigers in general aren't something I'll go out of my way to see, whereas something like a jaguar or leopard is a different story - so size is not the main factor :p

See, I find tigers far more charismatic than jaguars, they just don't really do anything for me. If we're talking leopards then I'm totally transfixed! :)

I can't wait until we get to see Malayan tigers in the UK although i do have to say give me a small carnivore over a big cat any day!

O wait... RSCC also has plenty of them!:D
