Whatever they meant, someone commented on a south lakes facebook post saying (and I quote directly): "are u gettin a baby panda cos edinburgh isn't?"

Some people, eh? :P to be honest, if south lakes got pandas, they'd put them with the snow leopards

When I look at Zootierliste, I guess it would maybe more wisely to re-organize the European population instead of bringing in new animals. Several zoos are having unpaired males while others are keeping unpaired females ! IMO it would be better to bring those animals first in breeding-situations and if then there is still place for more animals, bring then in !

You've got to love tarsiers!
The text on Facebook seems optimistic about their prospects, so I wish the tarsiers long, happy and productive lives and I wish RSCC good fortune with them.

I concur.

Also intrigued by one the comments further down regarding Papuan New Guinea species they are currently holding.

0.0.4 Maned Wolf born in a first breeding for RSCC. Two pups are being handreared and the other two are still with the mother

From Facebook:

Another successful birth last sunday of a Clouded Leopard at RSCC - look closely and you can see the cub with it's mother. This cub is an important one as it's parents are unrelated to all of the Clouded Leopards currently in Europe.

I saw this on FB and knew either you or Dave would beat me to posting the news! :p

RSCC have replied to a number of comments on their Facebook page enquiring about the re-opening with the news that all being well, the collection will re-open on Saturday April 5th 2014, with entry costing £12 for adults and £10 for children.

No news on when the new website will be going live as yet.

Hmm, I was looking forward to this opening 1st April.
The Saturday will be absolutely packed, I may have to take some more time off work the week after

Today at school I swear I heard a gibbon calling and with the RSCC just down the road it was the only answer :D

Any info? ;)

Gibbon calls can carry quite some way - it could have been the molochs at Port Lympne :p

Time will tell whether RSCC have gibbons, at any rate. They have posted to say no website will be forthcoming until the summer, incidentally.

Hopefully you will be visiting on opening day and reporting on what treasures you see, then.

How did I miss this? I am now thinking that Kent could be this years UK holiday location instead of Devon! :p

Statement just released... sounds like it *might* finally happen this time, fingers crossed ;)

At least the fanaloka, palawan binturong and bear cuscus will be onshow - of the species listed I suspect those will be the biggest draws. There is a comment on the FB page saying the following, which is rather interesting:

Tarsier will not be on display yet but you can book a behind the scenes to see Tarsier if you like.
