The last thread for the RSCC was starting to get a little crowded, so here goes for a new thread on collection news and developments, not personal opinions on how big or small the zoo is:rolleyes:

The New Guinea singing dogs have had a litter of 4 puppies born, so far mother is rearing them off show.

A new fishing cat enclosure is planned for the winter along with new exhibits in the original tropical house for cloud rats (species unknown), Balabac mouse deer (Tragulus nigricans) and cuscus (again species unknown).

The cave area and off show facilities will be refurbished too.

cuscus are among my favourite animals, I do hope they keep them well (and breed from them)

Oh that's cool, I thought they were awesome, although I wonder where the puppies will end up?

Be interesting to see if all these species turn up,as in the past they have said species would arrive and then haven`t arrived for what ever reason.

I believe the species are there already, they are giant cloud rats and ground cuscus. Great news Re: the NGS dogs!

The Balabac mouse-deer (Tragulus nigricans) intrigue me: aren't we led to believe that it's very hard to bring new species of hoofstock into EU countries? Where will these mouse-deer be imported from? [Presumably the Philippines? I don't know of any in European zoos]

I've been meaning to visit the RSCC but it's kinda far from london. Could anyone that takes public transport from London to the RSCC comment on the journey times and ease/difficulty to get there? There are some fine critters I would love to shoot!

PS: With my camera, of course ;-)

I visited RSCC a few months ago and I'm going back on Friday and can not wait!

Last time I went the Dwarf Lemurs and the Bamboo Lemur were not available to see, which was very disappointing as they were the two species I had most wanted to see. Does anyone on here know if they are now on show? I have been to numerous zoos and never been able to see a Dwarf Lemur so I would be very excited if they were on show at RSCC!!

Hopefully the Singing Dog puppies are on show because that would be amazing.

The Lemur species you mentioned are normally off-show.If you want to se Dwarf Lemur`s go to Blackpool, normally see them when ever I go.

:o(

Thanks for that, its such a shame though especially when the website says them have them! I might speak to a keeper when I am there and see if I can be shown them!!

Blackpool have mouse lemurs! I beleive RSCC is the only current UK collection with the fat tailed dwarf species! They will be on show in the future1 The cloud rats are both the northern and southern species! a pair of each and are indeed at the zoo! The mouse are being quaratened in Europe at the zoo and are indeed a very important addition to europe!

Blackpool and Bristol both have grey mouse lemurs. Its so exciting to hear about the cloud rats (do london still have panay cloud rats?). Also are the rufous elephant shrew (s?) on show and will the cloud rats be on show?

The New Guinea singing dogs pups have been named.

Our New Guinea Singing Dogs had their first litter! Welcome Bismark, Kerema, Hagen and Sepik to the RSCC. Congratulations new mum Belle!

That's interesting, wonder where they'll be sent to when they need to be rehomed?

They might be quite an interesting species for more of the smaller zoo's to take on they seem easy enough to take care of and house and if more are bred perhaps the smaller ones could take on this animal.
