I was just wondering how many people on here will be doing the RSPB Garden Birdwatch this weekend 29th to 31st January

For those not up to date with this all you have to do is make a list of all the bird species seen in your garden or local park if you have no garden (please be aware of Covid-19 rules

You can send your results off to the RSPB or why not post them on here.

Would be great to see what everyone see's not just in the UK bit all over the world.

I plan to do it, need to read up on it again as I thought it was just an hour over the weekend.

With the weather being foul most of the smaller birds I usually see are all hiding away.

Yes it's for an hour but I plan to do an hour each day and as you say the weather not looking brilliant for this

I always plan to do this and then forget so we'll see what happens this year.

Can you record an hour each day or just one hour on one of the days. I plan to maybe do a bit of gaming where I can watch the front garden and record the results from there.

You can record on all days but for just one hour as far as I know as I put my records in each year and no one as said anything.

Thanks, as I say first time doing it. Just hope the weather improves as otherwise I will just be recording seagulls, crows, wood pigeons and magpies. Which would a shame as we get Robins, House Sparrows, Blue tits, Wrens, Blackbirds, Starlings, Gold Finch and Wagtails out and about in the better weather.

I'm hoping to beat last years best of 28 species but this year so far it's been a little slow

I spent an hour bird watching on my balcony today, only some of the birds seen were relevant to the RSPB garden bird watch as they don't record all species. With that in mind I thought I'd post the list of birds seen from my balcony on here.

Common Shelduck
Eurasian Wigeon
Blackbird
Wood pigeon
Curlew
Carrion Crow
Magpie
Oyster Catcher
Great tit
House sparrow
Goldfinch
Starling
Black headed gull
Robin

My balcony overlooks a salt marsh (hence the ducks and waders) and is separated from it by a low hedge. I'd expect more hedgerow birds such as blue tit, long-tailed tits and Dublin but there were a few walkers about who probably disturbed them. Fortunately the salt marsh species were quite showy.

I used to do this religiously and submit the results. There have been changes in neighbouring gardens - decking, tree and shrub removal - that have resulted in fewer species being around so I haven't bothered for a couple of years. I do feed the birds every day - seeds, mealworms, apples, fat balls - and I know what's out there. I'm a slave to the blackbirds and house sparrows during the breeding season and am expected to provide mealworms whenever I step outside (or even when I appear at a window). A sparrowhawk is a regular visitor unfortunately, or fortunately, whichever way you look at it. Here's what I saw when I looked out for 20 minutes or so on a wet and windy day yesterday:
Blackcap
Blackbird
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Robin
Wren
House Sparrow
Magpie
Wood Pigeon

Really rubbish watching results from me considering all the birds I have seen they just were not really about all weekend.

So only recorded wood pigeons and blackbirds. Really shame but that's how it rolls.

During the allotted time, 14 Goldfinches with the first Greenfinch of the year, 4 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Blue Tits, 2 Robins, 1 Dunnock and 3 Woodpigeons. Also today, Magpie and Great Tit. Often, but not today, Coal Tit, Nuthatch, Jay, Wren and Stock Dove. Regular flyovers from Herring Gull and Carrion Crow.
