Saarbrücken Zoo Saarbrucken Zoo

Sadly 60-year old male Common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) Jonny passed away, he arrived at the Saarbrücken zoo in 1969 at the age of 8. He was the oldest male chimpanzee in Europe.

Sadly 28-year old male South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris) Bruno was euthanised last Thursday. He arrived at Zoo Saarbrücken from Gelsenkirchen in 1996.

At the start of this month 20-year old male Jaguar (Panthera onca) Badajos was euthanised due to age related illnesses. The zoo currently has one female jaguar named Antonia left.

A month ago 2 common emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae) hatched.

Earlier this month male Rothschild's giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) Geluk was send to Zoo Györ. He was the last giraffe in zoo Saarbrücken.

In December female Zuri arrived from Naturzoo Rheine, the zebras have since moved to the former giraffe enclosure. In March 2 Common elands (Tragelaphus oryx) arrived from Opel Zoo.

In March male Aardvark (Orycteropus afer) Nio was send to Zoo Halle.

Recently female Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Mayumi was send to Zoo Zürich, in return Saarbrücken received female Mary.
