This would (partially) explain why a great deal of exhibits didn't have inhabitants... I hate we don't have small animal houses as a commonplace thing in "Western" zoos. Fresno's Tropical Rainforest and San Francisco's South America House sorta count, but they're also very specific. I certainly hope for elephant shrews, though likely they'll have hedgehogs, I know they have them as ambassador animals.

So long as they don't rid of too many of their coolest reptiles, especially those of Madagascan origin hahaha.
 
Reid Park Zoo Director Jason Jacobs has resigned from his position in order to become the Director of the Sacramento Zoo in California. Jason was chosen from a field of 38 candidates and 5 finalists, and he has family members in nearby Walnut Creek. That means he will now be an hour away from close family rather than an entire state away in the desert of Arizona. Congratulations Jason! :)

A lot of big changes for the zoo! I'll put the link but for those who don't have a lot of time to read the article, here are the highlights...

The lions will be getting additional space to their exhibit. The space will come from the old tiger exhibit and this will double the space for the current pair.

5 meerkats from Brevard zoo will get an exhibit at the zoo.

Okapis will also make a return to the zoo thus making the zoo the only zoo in Northern California to house these animals. Building will start fall. The exhibit will be where the current summer camp lawn is, near the Kampala cafe.

Jake the white nosed coati will be put on exhibit where the former tamandua exhibit was.

Most of the residents of the aviaries near the camp lawn will be moved to new zoos to create space for the okapi exhibit. Great, Rhinoceros, and Knobbed hornbills will all be moved out of the zoo. The king vulture pair will go to Bronx zoo and will have a larger exhibit.

Mongoose lemurs will be moved into the small wonders area of the zoo. As a result, a handful of the straw colored fruit bats will be moved to other zoos. 4 of the bats will stay and become animal ambassadors.

Oh dear, does that mean the zoo no longer exhibit tamanduas? I think I heard both were elder and I knew one of them died, but I did not know about the other one.

That and they don't stop to think the animals would just go to another zoo if Sac closed... none of those animals can go back to the wild, at least not easily...
