Sacramento Zoo

Sacramento isn't really cold though. It's on the west coast and has an average yearly temperature of 60 throughout the year and an average temperature of 49 during the winter months. Sure, still a little on the drafty side for a giraffe (and they should get a new barn) but the article pegs it like these giraffes are hovering on snow and ice mounds clambering for warmth.

That is rather cold for a giraffe.

At the Cleveland Zoo I have seen the giraffes out when it was 40 degrees and the keeper told me they don't mind the cold at all. Maybe they adapted to the Cleveland climate though.

Giraffes can handle in the low to mid 40's just fine. Sunny day and no wind and those big bodies will pick up a lot of radiant heat.
I think I saw a picture in gallery of giraffes in German zoo out in snow.
