The Sacred ibis is no longer a breeding-bird in the Netherlands. From 2003 to 2009 every year the species bred in the wild with as highest number 12 nests in 2007 ! From 2010 onwards no nests have been found anymore so for the time being, the species isn't a breeding bird anymore.
Most of the breeding-stock came from free-flighing birds from Avifauna Birdpark - Alphen aan de Rijn bur since they started to catch their free-flighing birds back during 2008/2009 no breeding birds have been found anymore.
This doesn't mean however that they won't return because in nearby France also a free-living population exist ( 2011 this population was about 660 to 710 pairs ! ) and a young bird ringed in France has been observed in the Netherlands so maybe the France birds will re-esteblish the Netherlands.
