Dudley Zoological Gardens Sad news

Sasha the oldest of the two brazilian tapirs has died :( luckily it is Mina (not sure spelling) is the breeding female!

That is really sad.
You know what the last time I was there I asked the keeper where the other tapir's where as there was only one in the house where they always sleep together, she said they were most likely sleeping in the other house in the far corner, wonder if Sasha was ill then (2 weeks ago).
Don't know if 23 was a good age but it seems so to me. Will they get another tapir in now do you think?

On a recent trip to Dudley i was told the breeding female is pregnant at the moment, and is due sometime in November. So some good news in the sadness :)

one of the tapir's is off show when I asked why they were a bit shy about why but eventually told me because she likes the other shelter. I think they're trying to cover something up because when I asked has she had the baby yet they wouldn't answer the question

why would they want to hide the fact that they have another baby tapir since the mother is a good one and its good news? curious

yes this is curious but all being well I'll find a bit more out Friday (27th Nov) as I will be visiting again

Every 2 weeks I love the place it's (I hate to say this but) I can escape in there and relax as I care for my mother everyday and it's the only time I get to myself
I can't get to West Midlands Safari Park and the Birmingham Nature Center is only open on weekends, as I have to use Local transport then they become a problem to get too
I have a membership at Dudley Zoo which helps out with cost's without a day out every 2 weeks and it helps keep my sanity I think plus I love using my camera so I get the best of both worlds in one day
