On May 18th, the zoo announced that its (0.1) Masai giraffe named Jamala passed away at age 25 due to a decline in health caused by arthritis.

They are not part of the AZA network? But I assume they could never have received a pure-bred Masai giraffe from any other but an AZA accredited facility?

Safari West lost their AZA accreditation in October 2021. Jamala was their last remaining Masai giraffe. They now only have "generic" giraffes.

On June 30th, it was announced that the zoo received a critical violation from the USDA after a wild cougar entered the facility and preyed upon 3 scimitar-horned oryx between June 24th and June 26th. The facility has since added multiple security methods before the inspection.
