South Lakes Wild Animal Park Safari Zoo 2017 news

Yes, he is running on the old licence until the new applications are considered and they have the meeting to decide. He cant get it under his own name. In a lot of peoples opinion he will never give up that place or let anyone else run it without his "input" .

oh i thought the meeting was being held today

There are more details here Two separate bids made to run Dalton zoo

I followed the links to the actual applications on the Barrow BC website.
Guess what? They seem to be identical, although I haven't studied every page in detail, except of course for the names of Mr Gill and the directors of the other company (all the addresses have been redacted).

You only have to look on companies house for the complete information. saying that there are four active companies appertaining to the same zoo .... Cumbria Zoo Ltd, South Lakes Safari Zoo Ltd, Safari Zoo Trading Ltd, Safari Nature Zoo Ltd. D G is the owner of the zoo, some of the staff of the zoo are directors of all companies, who are in turn employed by D G via South Lakes Safari Zoo. which makes the common denominator D Gill, who owns the zoo and all four companies can be traced back to him or his wife. All of this information in its complete form can be found on companies house. ( with NO redaction) D Gill has not dissolved any of his companies or assets.

For the watchers of the continuing South Lakes Saga -the next relevant date would seem to be February 10th, the date by which representations must be in with the Council. So nothing new likely to happen until after that.

They are looking for a new animal director and a vet:

Looking at the personal specification for the animal director role, it is fascinating how closely many of the desired features align with someone who was already in the post, but who the council reports suggest was cast aside.....

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the intensive management needs of multiple species’ through several years working in operational roles within a zoo/safari park environment. They should demonstrate an active commitment to conservation and have an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced today in a modern zoo; specifically around nutrition, husbandry and successful breeding programmes. Strong leadership and people management skills are needed with experience in dealing effectively with external bodies, as well as a positive attitude towards mentoring and coaching junior managers and developing apprentices and trainees. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to initiate and maintain positive and effective internal and external relationships and have excellent communication and leadership skills. A valid UK driving licence and firearms experience would be beneficial. This role is 40 hours per week on a pre-agreed rota basis, including some weekends and bank holidays. All applicants must have right to work in the UK.

Wellll .... new positions are in fact advertised for, and yes from what I gather the position for one is the "Animal Director" which I think is the one David Armitage was originally allocated, and to quote David Gill was in his opinion " Old School" and that D G would " Mentor" D A. This from D G about D A, who from what ive been told has forgotten more than D G will ever know, is a joke. So in his position of power D G " demoted" D A????? Think about it. Now... If you were of ANY credibility at all in the zoological fraternity would YOU take this post there? On your own head be it , because this is a poisoned chalice if ever there was one. From what ive heard the inspection at the Zoo went on for 3 days and was not very favourable.
I suspect that the staff there are in some kind of consortium to take over the zoo, in an attempt to get the licence. I feel this could be attempted under a " E B T" scheme ( Employee Benefit Trust ) but im not too sure of this. But if it is this, some will know that in effect, this will leave the zoo still under ownership of D G. No way will D G ever sell that Zoo. But will the local council involved fall for this, if its true? ....

not been for a couple of years somebodys been busy building. Seemed to be short staffed today giraffe talk that I was expecting was simply here's your onion hold your hand out flat same for camel no talk just feed. Same for tigers no time for a talk just the meat at top of pole. The walk through safari with the pellet food no staff supervising that area fed a very friendly capybara but it had a cut on its head bleeding, guessing an emu mite of had a peck. Bit annoyed took a while to find where things had moved no maps. Few questions do they have plans for the old rhino/giraffe field or will it just be the 3 remaining giraffes and why is the old kangaroo parrot house not accessible?

The EAZA advert is posted by Karen Brewer which is interesting. Does anyone know if David Armitage is still there ?

speaking to a couple at zsl london on saturday , they seem to think that as long as the pictures are good the other failings of south lakes can be put aside and let other people worry about it , carp attitude imo but i wonder how many others have the same attitude

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say here. Can you explain?

its pretty clear , they were saying , as long as the photo opportunities were there , the welfare of the animals do not really matter !
