They had a rather spectacular complex for Goliath Herons when I was there, but Goliath Herrings sound even more impressive! :D

Never heared of Goliath Herrings but I guess you mean Goliath herons. 4 chicks were raised at Beekse Bergen. Funny fact is that Artis Zoo - Amsterdam had 100 years ago the world first breeding with this species and it took also a centuary before a second Dutch breeding was archiefed !

2 interesting videos from Beekse Bergen.

It seems to be a visit from a group of vets.

Had a great day at Beekse Bergen today ! Saw the new Okapi-enclosure for the first time myself and it looks great. 2 large outdoor-enclosures and inside 2 rows of stables ( I counted at least 8 ! ). 2 okapi's are kept at the moment ( at least I saw 2 ) but they have also place for many more ! I will up-load photos in the Beekse Bergen gallery.
Saw baby's with the ring-tailed lemur and chimps and the Goliath heron was sitting on her nest as did at least 6 pairs of white storks !
With the Grevy zebras and Rothschild giraffes also young in the herds.

Like last year a wild pair of eagle-owls have nested in the Safari-park ! Eagle-owls are very rare in the Netherlands and are breeding here since only about 10 years.
The Dutch wild birds are most like from Germany were in the 1960-ties and 1970 re-introduction projects were made with captive-bred birds which were donated by zoos and birdparks - also some Dutch zoos donated birds to these projects and therefor it's great that some of their offsprings have returned to the Netherlands and are breeding here ! The number of breeding-pairs in the Netherlands doesn't be larger then 5 and there main breeding-areas are in the most southern tip ( Zuid-Limburg ) and eastern part ( Gelderland ) and the birds at Beekse Bergen are the most-western birds sofar.

Was yesterday at Beekse Bergen and here some news :
Meerkats had baby's
Oriental Small-clawed otters had baby's
Capybaras had baby's ( 2 seen )
Greater flamingos had baby's ( 3 seen )
lots of zebra- and Antilope-baby's ( Eland Brindled gnus )
I've seen 3 Okapis in the new Okapi-enclosure ( thought they only had 2 ? )

At Beekse Bergen again a wild pair of European Eagle owls has nested ( on the ground in one of the Safari-sections ) and at least 3 chicks are in the nest at the moment.

Don't you mean, greater kudu? that species has already been presented as a new addition for this year and they would live in the former forest buffalo enclosure (the buffalo now live together with the pere david and sika deer.
